The BackMatrix-49-2080 is a large-area 24 V rigid LED module for economical, homogeneous illumination behind diffusers. It uses 49 high-performance Nichia LEDs on a 280 × 280 mm wave-board and produces 1150 lm, corresponding to approximately 14,000 lm/m² of module area.
Its defining optical feature is the very wide 180° light distribution. This spreads light laterally across the diffuser and helps reduce the distance required between the LED board and the illuminated surface compared with more directional modules.

Designed for uniform large-area backlighting
BackMatrix modules are designed for backlighting behind diffusers rather than narrow-beam illumination. The LEDs are distributed across a square rigid PCB so the light can blend over a short optical distance into a broad, visually uniform luminous surface.
The 180° distribution is particularly useful for luminous ceilings, illuminated walls and other shallow constructions where a conventional narrow beam would create visible hotspots.
Because light is emitted over such a wide angle, BackMatrix2080 can be used in comparatively shallow luminous elements when the diffuser and module spacing are selected correctly.
Billboards, signage and illuminated displays
The regular LED layout is well suited to billboard backlighting, signage, light boxes, exhibition displays and other illuminated graphics. Several modules can be arranged behind a translucent face to cover large areas while maintaining repeatable LED spacing.
The final cavity depth and module spacing should be selected according to the diffuser transmission, required brightness and acceptable hotspot visibility.
Application fit for 2700 K white light
The 2700 K warm-white version is particularly suitable for hospitality, residential interiors, restaurants and decorative luminous ceilings where a softer atmosphere is preferred.
Solderless 24 V system integration
The module operates from a regulated 24 V DC supply. Its insulation-displacement connection allows electrical installation without soldering and supports module-to-module wiring with standard cable.
For larger illuminated surfaces, power-supply capacity, conductor size and feed-point layout should be selected for the combined current of all connected modules so brightness remains consistent across the complete installation.
High-quality Nichia LEDs
BackMatrix uses specified Nichia LEDs rather than unidentified generic components. This gives better control over luminous performance, colour consistency and long-term behaviour when many modules are used together in one illuminated surface.
The white-light variants are colour sorted for consistent appearance across multi-module installations. For more background on white-light quality, see our colour temperature guide.
Designed and manufactured in Germany
We develop and manufacture professional rigid LED modules in Germany, combining more than 20 years of LED application experience with controlled SMT production and application engineering. BackMatrix products are designed as repeatable large-area light engines for professional backlighting, signage and custom luminaires.
For OEM and project customers, we can also support LED selection, PCB adaptation, thermal design, optical layout, prototyping and series production. This is especially useful for large illuminated surfaces, where LED pitch, diffuser distance, luminous density and module spacing must work together as one optical system.
This product is covered by a 5-year commercial warranty, subject to current warranty conditions. Learn more about Lumistrips and our LED manufacturing capabilities.
