This product is a precision LED holder from LEDiL. It is designed to hold and position the matching optic or LED precisely.

Holders and adapters are what make an optical system reproducible in series production. They fix the optic at exactly the designed distance from the LED and keep it there under vibration and thermal cycling. A misalignment of a fraction of a millimetre between LED and lens is enough to visibly distort the beam, which is why using the matching holder rather than an improvised solution is worth the small extra cost.
